WorkCover has a responsibility to ensure stakeholders are provided with opportunities to express their views about our policies and services. We are committed to using the appropriate processes for informing, consulting and/or collaborating with stakeholders and ensuring that participative processes are consistently applied across the organisation.
WorkCover believes meaningful and effective stakeholder participation benefits the organisation and its stakeholders can:
- expand the knowledge and understanding of particular issues of WorkCover and its stakeholders
- identify previously-unknown issues
- reduce delays by providing stakeholders with the opportunity to provide input early in the decision-making process
- inform stakeholders of other factors that influence decisions made by WorkCover or provide a more detailed understanding of constraints
- lead to better and more informed decision-making.
WorkCover, in consultation with stakeholders, developed guidelines to ensure stakeholders were appropriately involved in decisions that affect them. The guidelines:
- provide internal guidance about appropriate types of consultation for various types of issues
- set a standard for consultation for each participation level
- define the role of each party in the consultation
- provide guidance on level of consultation required for different issues
- define the method and process, including timeframes, to be used by WorkCover for each type of consultation.
