Who we are
WorkCover is an employer-funded statutory authority (constituted under the WorkCover Corporation Act 1994) with a Board of Directors appointed by the Governor of South Australia.
South Australia has a no-fault workers rehabilitation and compensation scheme established under the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1986. Each state and territory within Australia has a similar scheme in place. In South Australia the Board of Directors and WorkCover SA management are accountable to the State Parliament via the Minister for Industrial Relations.
For a summary of scheme purpose, entitlements, funding and compliance see Scheme overview.
What we do
The purpose of the Scheme is to provide protection to workers and employers in the event of workplace injury. If a worker is hurt at work, or made ill because of their work, we aim to support and rehabilitate that person so they can return to work, their family and the community.
We work with our claims agent (Employers Mutual), health care providers, employers, workers and their representatives to provide a workers rehabilitation and compensation system for all South Australians.
Our business focuses on overseeing the rehabilitation, compensation and return to work process and associated services.
Occupational health, safety and welfare
SafeWork SA (formerly the Workplace Services division of the Department for Administrative and Information Services) is responsible for both administering and enforcing the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1986.
The Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act provides protection to workers and members of the general community when they visit workplaces by ensuring that all workplaces are aware of the obligation to provide a safe working environment.
Statement of Reconciliation
WorkCover is committed to working towards reconciliation. Read our Statement of Reconciliation.
