Employer fraud occurs when an employer knowingly lies for the purpose of evading payments which he or she is legally obliged to make. There are occasions when an omission is not deliberate, for example, an inadvertent or unintentional misstatement is not fraud.
Common examples
Common examples of employer fraud:
- Providing false information for the purpose of evading levy payments
- Overstating income maintenance for an injured worker.
