Overcoming an injury

Your attitude counts

Getting back to work may require more than just the commitment of the worker, employer and medical care providers - your personal attitude plays a huge part in how quickly you recover.

Staying at home until completely recovered is not always the best thing. Research shows that returning to work, even on restricted duties, is an important part of recovery for many people.

Tips for getting better

If you, or someone you employ, has recently been injured at work the following simple tips may assist in the recovery.

  • stay in charge of your life. Concentrate on the things you can do, rather than the things you can't
  • keep thinking positively and expect to get better
  • try to stay active. People who stay active recover faster. Aim to resume your activities soon
  • get to know your own strengths and do as much as you can without aggravating your injury
  • talk to your family about the role they can play in the rehabilitation process
  • keep talking with your employer - and ask your employer to encourage the support of your co-workers. Co-workers who support you and take steps to ensure your safe return to work may help speed up the process
